Klay Thompson's tearful return to the Bay Area is spoiled by Steph Curry as the Golden State Warriors defeat the Dallas Mavericks.

As the Golden State Warriors came back late to defeat the Dallas Mavericks 120-117 on Tuesday, Steph Curry ruined his former “Splash Brother” Klay Thompson’s emotional return to Chase Center.

After 13 great years with the Warriors, Thompson was playing against his old team for the first time since moving to Dallas from the Bay Area in July.

The ultimate laugh, however, went to Curry, who scored 37 points and Golden State’s last 12 points to defeat Dallas. Curry and Thompson helped to change basketball with their three-point shooting.

Curry was heard yelling into a TV camera in joy after making a crucial three-pointer in the fourth quarter as Golden State improved to 9-2 to stay tied for first place in the Western Conference, demonstrating the Warriors’ overwhelming triumph.

However, Thompson’s comeback to play against the Warriors after being a part of the team’s dynasty run—which included four championship wins and innumerable unforgettable moments—will make the game unforgettable.

Approximately 400 Warriors staff members met Thompson upon his arrival at Chase Center, cheering him on as he made his way to the locker room.

“That was awesome,” Thompson remarked. I’m really appreciative of the staff showing me that type of affection. really unexpected and made me smile. Something I will always remember.

In honor of Thompson’s hat choice during the 2022 championship celebrations, fans in attendance were handed “Captain Klay” hats for the evening. During the pregame warm-ups, there were also video tributes to the 34-year-old.

The Warriors aired a tribute to Thompson before the player introductions, which concluded with the words, “Thank you #11, Thank You Game 6, Thank You Captain, Thank You Splash Brother, Thank You Klay,” after Curry and Thompson had an embrace prior to tip-off.
With thunderous applause from the Warriors audience, Thompson seemed to be overcome by the emotion of the moment as he emerged from the bench.

Early in the game, the “Splash Brothers” were reunited when Thompson scored the game’s first two points from the free-throw line and Curry fouled him 15 seconds in.

Curry remarked, “I’m shocked that they ran a post up for him on the first play.” “I fouled him because I was going to stop him from scoring and I blacked out on that one.” It was a somewhat unique evening.

Despite the fact that Thompson and the Mavericks lost the game in the end—he scored 22 points upon his return—he was appreciative of the welcome he got.

According to Thompson, “it was a cool moment to feel the energy from the fans.” “In particular, every conversation I overheard was constructive.”

Thompson was a member of the core during his tenure in California, along with Curry and Draymond Green, who contributed significantly to the team’s success.

But before returning in January 2022, Thompson lost more than two years due to consecutive major injuries, first a damaged right Achilles tendon and then an ACL tear.

Following Tuesday’s game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr discussed Thompson’s tenacity.
Kerr told reporters, “I think what he overcame is almost unprecedented.” He lost those peak seasons and struggled to reconcile all of that in the latter years after his return. We all witnessed his emotional struggle with it. He struggled to regain his game, and we witnessed it. He performed a lot of incredible things, like leading the league in threes two years ago and helping us win a championship.

We hoped that this would have lasted forever and that Klay would have completed his career with us, but things always happen as they do. I believe he made the right decision in the end. It was difficult to discern that he wasn’t joyful because he deserved to be. He is really a very content individual.
