The Los Angeles Lakers overcame a deficit to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 128-123 on Wednesday night, and LeBron James made history once more by becoming the oldest player to achieve three consecutive triple-doubles.
The NBA star posted a possible retirement timetable following the game.

James told reporters on Wednesday, “To be absolutely honest, I’m not going to play that much longer.”
“How many years that is, I have no idea. It doesn’t matter if it’s one year or two years.
“I’m not playing until the wheels fall off,” I declared the other night. I refuse to be that man. I simply wanted to be on the floor, so I won’t be the guy who disrespects the game. After the victory, he declared, “That won’t be me.”
James is still among the league’s top players, and he will turn 40 next month.
In addition to his triple-doubles against the Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers in the two games prior, he recorded 35 points, 14 assists, and 12 rebounds against the Grizzlies.
The NBA’s all-time top scorer has now surpassed his own record, which he achieved in November 2019 at the age of 34, as the oldest player to accomplish the accomplishment.
James and his eldest son, Bronny, made NBA history last month by being the first father-son team to play together.
In addition to playing with his oldest son, he had previously hinted that if his other son, Bryce, a senior in high school, had the opportunity to play in the NBA, he would still desire to do so.
In 2022, he told Chris Ballard of Sports Illustrated, “So, it’s all up to my body, but more importantly, my mind,” in response to a question on whether he would be able to continue playing in the upcoming years and have the opportunity to play alongside his youngest son. The possibilities are endless for me as long as my intellect is active, driven, and bright. I’m capable of more. But we’ll see.
James was questioned once more about waiting to play with his youngest son before the Lakers’ game against his old team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, on October 30.
James told Cleveland.com, “I’m not sure.” “We’ll see. That would be really awesome. It all comes down to my thoughts and how my body responds over the course of the ensuing years.
In 11 games this season, James is averaging 24.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 9.4 assists despite his advanced age. At this point in the season, the Lakers are 7-4.
When the Lakers begin their Emirates NBA Cup schedule on Friday, they will travel to San Antonio to play Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, where James will try to record his fourth straight triple-double.
